Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about EZ Sign® NFC Models
-
1Place the NFC antenna close to the center of the device
The NFC antenna location varies depending on the smartphone model. Use the center of the device as a guide and slightly adjust the position to test. -
2Do not move until the update is complete
If the smartphone or device moves during communication, the update will fail. Please wait without moving until the completion message/sound appears. -
3Remove thick cases or magnets
Thick cases, magnetic cases, or wallet-style cases will block NFC signals. Please be sure to remove them. -
4Keep away from metal surfaces
Communication becomes unstable on metal desks, steel shelves, or metal panels. Please perform updates on wooden or resin surfaces. -
5The 4-color model takes about 30 seconds
The 4-color model takes up to 30 seconds to update. If you pull away midway, the display will be corrupted. Do not remove until complete. -
6Try another device if possible
NFC antenna strength varies by model. Trying with another smartphone can help isolate the issue. -
7Try from the back of the EZ Sign (the side without the display)
Depending on the model, updating from the back may be more stable. -
8Try with light content like text data
Image data is large and may cause unstable updates. First, try updating with simple text only.
You can update it using an NFC (Type-A) compatible smartphone (iOS / Android).
You can also update it from a Windows PC (a commercially available NFC reader is required for PC. Recommended: SONY RC-S300).
Android: NFC-equipped models. Antenna position varies by model.
Windows: Windows 10 or later. Requires a separate NFC reader (Recommended: RC-S300).
Depending on the smartphone model and antenna position, the NFC signal may be weak, making updates unstable. If you are having trouble, please contact us with your device model and OS version.
As a guide:
- 2-Color Model:Approx. 2 minutes
- 4-Color Model:Approx. 30 seconds (Varies depending on image size, device performance, and signal environment)
In most cases, it is not a malfunction, but rather an issue with the NFC antenna location, phone case, or environment. Please try steps 1 through 8 in the checklist at the top of the page.
If the issue persists after trying everything, please contact us with your device model and OS version.
This is mainly caused by communication errors during the update. Please check the following:
- Are you selecting a "4-color template" or "4-color display data" in the app?
- Did you move the smartphone or device during the update? (4-color takes approx. 30 seconds)
- Is the NFC antenna placed flat against the center of the device?
- Are you updating on a metal surface or strong magnet?
- Is your phone case removed?
- Have you tried updating from the back side of the EZ Sign?
- Have you tried updating with simple text-only data first?
If the issue persists, please contact us with your device model and the number of affected units.
This may be caused by a communication error or your background color settings. Please check the following:
- Is the "Background Color" in the app's edit menu set to "Transparent"?
- Did you move the smartphone or device during the update? (4-color takes approx. 30 seconds)
- Is the NFC antenna placed flat against the center of the device?
- Are you updating on a metal surface or strong magnet?
- Is your phone case removed?
- Have you tried updating from the back side of the EZ Sign?
- Have you tried updating with simple text-only data first?
If the issue persists, please contact us with your device model and the number of affected units.
On Google Pixel 7 and older models, updates may be unstable due to the characteristics of the NFC signal.
EZ Sign works on an "E-paper + NFC Power" system. It receives power from your smartphone (or NFC reader) only at the moment of updating. Once the update is complete, it holds the display without using any power. Therefore, no battery replacement, charging, or wiring is required.
| 2-Color Model | 4-Color Model | |
|---|---|---|
| Display Colors | Black / White | Black / White / Red / Yellow |
| Update Time | Approx. 2 minutes | Approx. 30 seconds |
| Ideal For | QR codes, work labels, frequent updates | POP displays, signage, name tags, reception |
It has IP65 equivalent dustproof and waterproof performance. It is resistant to splashes and dust, making it suitable for factories, stores, and outdoor-compatible fixtures.
Once updated, the display is retained indefinitely without power. The display will never disappear due to a dead battery or power outage.
The maximum number of updates for the e-paper panel is not at a level that will cause issues during a normal lifespan under general use. However, frequent, high-speed updating over a long period may put stress on the panel.
There is no published value for the specific update limit as a product specification. For standard retail or office use, long-term operation should not be an issue.
It features a matte display unique to e-paper, making it more suitable for text, icons, and simple graphics rather than high-definition photo reproduction. Because the 4-color model uses only black, white, red, and yellow, the color reproduction range differs from a full-color LCD.
